Annual Events
JANUARY
     There are not scheduled events for the month of January.

FEBRUARY through MARCH
Winter Seminars - dates and topics to be announced - These are presented via Zoom -
     During the months of February and March, SCOO's Rear Commodore coordinates with the Nautical Cooperative of Oriental (NCO) to present speakers to share their expertise from many diverse boating/cruising experiences, (i.e. long distance and local cruising, regatta racing rules and regulations, sail trim and rig tuning, first aid and medical issues, wood and fiberglass maintenance and repair, engine maintenance and troubleshooting, etc.) These seminars are highly informative and quite popular. There is no fee for these seminars. The seminars are live streamed online. The seminars are open to everyone - members and non-members.

MARCH
Oyster Roast/Shrimp Fest
     This is the first social event of the season. Oysters and Shrimp will be cooked on premises and supplied by SCOO.
**Reservations to attend are required and guests are permitted with a nominal fee charged per member or guest in attendance. Additionally bring a dish to share (salad, main dish or dessert.) BYOB and bring lawn chairs for your comfort.

APRIL
Get the Cobwebs Out
     This is the first on-the-water event of the year for those boats and owners ready to cruise. Generally, a one night cruise to South River, with a simple Potluck happy hour or dinner.

Shakedown
      This event provides a second opportunity to verify your boat and gear are functioning. Often the Captain selects an on the water drill or safety discussion. Final call of the event is a pot luck dinner.
Bring a dish to share and BYOB.

Commissioning Day
     All members and prospective members are encouraged to join the Commodore for a Blessing of the Fleet and Commissioning Ceremony followed by a catered lunch. Location may vary from year to year. BYOB and also bring lawn chairs for your comfort. **Reservations and payment are required in advance for this catered picnic.

Vandemere Cruise "By Land or Sea"
     This is an overnight cruise to the Vandemere Town Park, boats may dock or anchor out. A potluck dinner for those arriving by boat and any club members who would like to join by driving to the park. 
Bring lawn chairs for your comfort and a dish to share. NO public mention of BYOB here.

MAY
Temples Point Marina, Clubfood Creek, Havelock
     A two night cruise in early May to this marina (dockage or anchor out). Meal plans and activities to be announced by the captain.

Spring Cruise
    This month usually marks the beginning of our cruising season. Typically, our longest cruise of the season takes place this month. They usually last 3 to 4 weeks. Check the current Cruising Schedule since destinations and dates change each year.

JUNE 
Ocracoke Summer Cruise 
     On the Pamlico Sound, Ocracoke is a not to miss destination. This is usually a 4-5 day cruise and includes a pot luck, a dinner out as a group and many other activities. 
BYOB and bring lawn chairs, bikes and a dish to share.

JULY
Cape Lookout (Beaufort) Cruise
     A mid-month cruise to Cape Lookout with a possible stop in Beaufort. Captain will advise the meal or happy hour plans.
Bring beach gear: chairs, shade umbrellas. etc. and water toys e.g. paddleboards or kayaks.

Annual SCOO Picnic
     This is a shore side social event. Bring lawn chairs for your comfort.
**Reservations and payment in advance are required for this catered picnic.

AUGUST 
"Lazy Day" Cruise 
     Typically cruises scheduled this month are short, local cruises to marinas with pools or restaurants where participants can socialize in cool comfort.

SEPTEMBER 
Gerry Crowley Memorial Regretta Regatta 
     The Regretta is an on-the-water, fun, informal race/obstacle course between Oriental One, Adams Creek and Garbacon Shoal. It is governed by the Cruise Captain and the participants creative use of the infamous '3 Cheat Rule', (i.e.: engine on, no sails up, motoring backwards, ignoring the marks, etc. - the choice is yours.) After the race, there is a potluck dinner and awards presentation. 
BYOB and bring lawn chairs for your comfort as well as a dish to share.   

Second Cape Lookout (Beaufort) Cruise
     A mid-month cruise to Cape Lookout with a possible stop in Beaufort. Captain will advise the meal or happy hour plans.
Bring beach gear: chairs, shade umbrellas. etc. and water toys e.g. paddleboards or kayaks.
      
Washington/Bath Fall Cruise
     This is usually a 4-5 day cruise as the heat moderates and cruising is more comfortable. Bath has a free State Dock along with a marina and a nice anchorage. Free bulkhead slips are available in Washington, along with a marina with water, electricity and bath house. Both towns played a big part in our national history, and today there are nice restaurants, museums and shops to visit.

OCTOBER 

Mumfest Cruise - Held the second weekend in October
     A Friday, Saturday and Sunday cruise to New Bern, dock or anchor out. Enjoy the Mumfest activities downtown, all are within walking distance of the marina or town dock. Cruise Captain will arrange  a group evening meal at one of the local restaurants.

South River Full Moon Cruise 
     This is an on-the-water overnight event. Sail to South River and anchor in the lee of the old cemetery or in Southwest Creek for protection from the typical chilly and windy weather. Raft up to share appetizers and reminisce about the past year's events. If you choose not to raft up, bring your dinghy to enable you to join in.

Commodore's Cup Regatta 
     A pursuit race with assigned start times for each boat entered. The race is around the typical Government Marks of Oriental One, Adams Creek and Garbacon Shoal. Power boaters are encouraged to participate by lending assistance a Committee Boat or 'Chase Boat'. The race concludes in time to attend the awards presentation and a picnic. 
**This event will be catered and reservations and payment will be required in advance. BYOB and bring lawn chairs for your comfort.

Ocracoke Fall Cruise
     A second less structured cruise to this island. Usually includes a potluck and dinner at a restaurant. Rent bicycles or golf carts. Enjoy the beach, etc.
Bring beach chairs, kites etc.

NOVEMBER 
SCOO Annual Meeting/Change of Watch  (location to be announced)
     
This is the year end Annual Meeting (where the voting of new Officers and Board members takes place), summarizing the year's highlights and accomplishments, with presentation of awards and concluding with the Change of Watch for the newly elected Commodore, Flag Officers, Board of Governors, Committee Chairs and additional SCOO management. It is preceded by a social gathering and includes a catered meal. This is a highly attended event and is an opportunity for new members to become acquainted with and learn about events and club activities over the past year as well as proposed activities for the new year. **Reservations and payment are required in advance for this catered dinner.

Flash Cruises

Throughout the season all SCOO members are encouraged to initiate short notice cruises whenever they see a window of good weather. The cruise captain may notify the membership and communicate the details with anyone who replies with interest.
