SCOO REGRETTA REGATTA HEADQUARTERS

The Sailing Club of Oriental (SCOO) announces the final notice for the 2023 REGRETTA REGATTA. The Regatta will be held on the Neuse River off Oriental, NC on Tuesday, 29 August 2023.

This event is also open to POWER BOATS.  Realize that any sailboat utilizing their engine is a power boat and relinquishes any sailboat “right of way”

VHF communication for this event will be on channel 78, not 16.

The Sailing Club of Oriental (SCOO) formally announces the 2023 REGRETTA REGATTA. The Regatta will be held on the Neuse River off Oriental, NC on Tuesday, 28 August 2023.

The course will utilize government marks (Oriental 1, Adams Creek #1AC and Garbacon Shoal #7). The event will be “PURSUIT STYLE.” That is there we will have staggered start times. The first start will be at 1200 hrs. basically as follows:

         Boats 20’ and under @1200.

         Boats 21’ to/including 30’ @1206.

         Boats 31’ to/including 40’ @1212.

         Boats 41’ and above will start on Wednesday whenever they wish.

  To inform, refresh, the REGRETTA takes advantage of the “TCR”…..you are allowed three (3) cheats. Does anyone keep count? For example …you might sail during the race with your engine on and in gear, to be more competitive with the hot shot ODC guys/gals. You also might decide the race course is tooooooo long and ignore one of the course designated marks so as to win the more contested race to the head of food line at the social that follows at REGATTA headquarters. The shore side activities trophy presentations followed by a “covered dish social” at REGATTA headquarters: 610 Windward Drive, Oriental, NC.
